RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (Angptl4) is a glycoprotein that is involved in regulating lipid metabolism, which has been indicated as a link between hypertriglyceridemia and albuminuria in glomerulonephropathy. Deregulated lipid metabolism is increasingly recognized as an important risk factor of glomerulonephropathy. This study aimed to investigate the Angptl4 expression in renal tissue and podocyte under hyperlipidemia conditions and explore the potential molecular mechanisms. OBJECTIVE: The role of Angptl4 in hyperlipidemia-induced glomerular disease and the detailed underlying mechanisms are unclear. This study sought new insights into this issue. METHODS: We measured Angptl4 levels in the plasma and urine from patients with hyperlipidemia and healthy people. Rats were fed a high fat diet (HFD) to induce dyslipidemia model and the human podocytes were stimulated by palmitic acid as in vivo and in vitro experiments. The podocytes injury and the Angptl4 level in renal tissues were evaluated. Furthermore, the mechanism of Angptl4 on podocytes injury was investigated. RESULTS: The urinary Angptl4 level was gradually upregulated in both patients with hyperlipidaemia and high fat-diet-induced rats. HFD rats showed increased 24 h urinary protein and glomerular tuft area at week 12. The levels of nephrin and WT-1 were down-regulated, but the Angptl4 levels were markedly upregulated on the glomerular of rats on HFD. In the human podocytes, lipid accumulation accompanied by increases of Angptl4, but the expression of nephrin, WT-1, p-AMPKα and p-ACC was decreased after palmitic acid treatment. However, this injury effect was mediated by the aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide-1ß-D-ribofuranoside (AICAR), activator of the low energy sensor AMPK/ACC signaling. CONCLUSION: This study was the first of its kind to show that podocyte damage induced by dyslipidemia could be associated with upregulated Angptl4 and that patients with hyperlipidemia might have relatively high urinary Angptl4 expression. The dysregulation of Angptl4 in the podocytes under hyperlipidemia is possibly carried out through AMPK/ACC signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Plant diseases lead to a significant decline in the output and quality of Chinese herbal medicines. Actinomycetes play a vital role in the rhizosphere ecosystem. This is especially true for Streptomyces, which have become a valuable biological control resource because of their advantages in producing various secondary metabolites with novel structures and remarkable biological activities. The purpose of this study was to isolate an effective antagonistic actinomycete against the pathogen of corm rot in saffron. An antagonistic actinomycete, CM253, was screened from the rhizosphere soil samples of Crocus sativus, by plate co-culture with four pathogenic fungi (Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium solani, Penicillium citreosulfuratum, and Penicillium citrinum). CM253 inhibited the growth and development of F. oxysporum hyphae by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Furthermore, by analyzing the degrading enzyme, the growth-promoting performance, and the whole genome of strain CM253, it was identified as Streptomyces yangpuensis, which produces NH3, protease, glucanase, cellulase, IAA, and ACC deaminase. In addition, 24 secondary metabolite synthesis gene clusters were predicted in antiSMASH. We identified genes encoding 2,3-butanediol; methionine; isoprene (metH, mmuM, ispEFH, gcpE, idi, and ilvABCDEH); biofilm formation; and colonization (upp, rfbBC, efp, aftA, pssA, pilD, fliA, and dhaM). Above all, S. yangpuensis CM253 showed the potential for future development as a biocontrol agent.

RESUMO

Coordinating a group of chemically powered micromotors holds great importance in potential applications that involve a large population in a complex environment, yet information transmission at a population scale remains challenging. To this end, we demonstrate how propagating waves emerge among a population of spontaneously oscillating micromotors that dash toward a direction prescribed by their Janus orientations (termed a "ballistic" wave). Moreover, chemical communication among these micromotors enables the tuning of the speed and frequency of individual micromotors and their waves, by varying the population density or the viscosity of the medium.

RESUMO

A detailed study on the foamability, foam stability, foam liquid-carrying capacity, and foam morphology of two N-acyl amino acid surfactants with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and gelatin were performed by foam scanning. The results showed that the foamability of the mixed system increased gradually and then tended to be stable with increasing surfactant concentration. The foamability of the high-concentration BSA system was stronger than that of the low-concentration BSA system. The foamability and foam stability of sodium N-lauroyl phenylpropanoic acid (N-C12P)/BSA were better than those of sodium N-lauroyl propylamino acid (N-C12A)/BSA, and the foamability and foam stability of N-C12A/gelatin was better than those of N-C12P/gelatin. The liquid-carrying capacity of the foam initially increased and then decreased with increasing time, and the maximum liquid-carrying capacity increased with increasing surfactant concentration. When the concentration of the surfactant was 8 mM, the drainage rate of N-C12A/protein was higher than that of N-C12P/protein. The morphology of the bubble gradually changed from spherical to polyhedron and the number of bubbles gradually decreased with time increasing. Differences in surfactant structure and protein type had an important effect on the number and area of foam.
